After completing an engineering degree in Agronomy with a specialization in”fisheries”, a DEA in fundamental and applied parasitology in the aquatic environment and adoctorate in marine biology, I taught for eight years at a Tunisian University where I wasresponsible for courses and practical work in Animal Biology (Animal Diversity), whilecontinuing to conduct research in the marine field. Upon my return to Mauritania in 2007, Ijoined the Mauritanian Institute for Oceanographic and Fisheries Research, where I wasentrusted with various research missions and/or in which I participated. The most recentmissions, some of which are still ongoing and which I coordinated, include:

  • Responsible forthe “Shrimp Fishery” component at the level of the EU-Mauritania Joint Scientific Committee,the objective of which is to analyze catch data from the shrimp fishery in Mauritania;
  • Coordinator of the FarFish project, the objective of which is to study the exploitation ofresources by EU-flagged vessels outside European maritime waters 
  • Coordinator andmember of the steering committee of the BirdLife Project on Bycatch of seabirds and turtles,the objective of which is to reduce the bycatch of seabirds and turtles in industrial fisheries inWest Africa 
  • Focal point in Mauritania of the Consortium for Tagging Activities in the EasternAtlantic within the framework of the Atlantic Ocean Tropical Tuna Tagging Programme (AOTTP)- Phase 2, the objective of which was to tag 8,000 tuna in the Canary Islands, Mauritanian,Senegalese and Ghanaian waters. 
  • Coordinator of the monitoring of the lobster fishery whosemain task is to control the development of the lobster fishery, to fill the gaps in scientificinformation relating to this resource and to develop a management plan for the lobster fishery.As part of these research activities, I actively participate in the evaluation entrusted to IMROPof the EIES carried out on the marine and coastal environment and in the preparation ofopinions. I was also part of the teams responsible for the EIES of the saltworks project in theBaie du Lévrier in Nouadhibou, of the evaluation of the possible environmental impacts of thenew SNIM mineral quay in Nouadhibou. In addition, I was in charge of the Biodiversity courseas part of the project “Capacity building for environmental monitoring

Sana Dia, a 22-year-old Mauritanian, is currently a management controller for the Associationfor the Progress of Women and a financial auditor at Deloitte in Paris. A graduate of NEOMABusiness School in Audit, she has acquired solid expertise in auditing and financial control. AtDeloitte, she applies PCAOB standards to analyze financial statements and identify financialrisks. She also enriched her experience at FIGESTAUDIT, where she assessed the sincerity andregularity of accounts, and at Exco GHA Mauritania, by carrying out audit missions in aninternational context.
